If you are in Melbourne and you want to decide what cafes/restaurants are worth checking out, what most people do is to Urbanspoon it, and see the ratings of the dining establishment. Usually, 75% and above is good to go, 90% and above would mean that it is pretty much the best of the area. The next thing you have to check is whether the reviews as a collective whole are trustworthy - look at the number of reviews. Usually if it goes beyond 200, you can consider it to be reliable. At this point of my exchange semester, I didn't know of this app and I wandered into one of the better cafes, Heartattack and Vine, in the Carlton region. Well, it's really difficult to find a bad cafe in Melbourne so... I took my chances.

Heartattack and Vine features a yesteryear Italian atmosphere and opens daily for a European breakfast of Noisette pastries and Wide Open Road coffee. I think that one of the best parts about this cafe is that it opens from 7 in the morning all the way to 11 in the evening. Most cafes close by 4 in the afternoon which is really annoying for people who wake up late. Evenings are solely reserved for cicchetti and drinks though! The cafe's interior is a tad dark, perfect for a cuppa and reading session.
