With eleven stores in the Victoria state itself and prominently located on the busiest streets of the city (Swanston, Little Bourke Street), Dessertstory 甜品屋 is probably the number one idea whenever you need to get a post-dinner sweet treat. It is almost perpetually crowded as long as it is open. Is it that awesome or is it just a case of no competitors?
Even on the first week, I found myself in DessertStory three times. The frequency at which I am propelled into this space was quite scary... am I going to be eating the same desserts for the rest of my stay here? This must be a very Melbourne thing because everyone seems to love DessertStory so much. Verdict: Long story short, it's a pretty far cry from the real Taiwanese desserts. It is generally quite bland and has 'no kick' when it comes to flavours, with form but no actual substance. Don't expect it to bring you back to Taiwan, but it's one of the rare sources for your shaved ice desserts when you really really want it. I would say, save your calories though.
