First of the many cafes to come... Corner & Bench was a very unassuming-looking cafe that was surprisingly bustling with a local morning crowd waiting around for their caffeine fix. Oh, what a privilege to enjoy a slow start while playing word games on the newspapers and people-watching.
Glass displays are not really my kinda thing for atmosphere, but everything that Corner & Bench lacked for 'feel', they compensated for with the food.
I waited a bit before I started reviewing on Melbourne's cafes because I wanted to get my feet wet in the scene for a fairer assessment. Corner & Bench would be considered a good representation of how and why the city is the best place on earth for coffee. I remembered how immediately striking that it tasted of a completely different league from whatever I had in Singapore, and then I never looked back.
They looked so photogenic, so tantalizing and perfect for brunch right? Tell you what: THEY TASTED EVEN BETTER. I remembered my pancakes (AUD12) being amazingly fluffy, and wanting to lick all of that berry compote off the plate right away. Well, table manners was the only thing refraining me. Be right back while I go add Corner & Bench to my list of bound-for-return-trips. Did I mention I just discovered their $10 lunch deals?!! Oh my god. I want to try everything on their menu.
