Two Old One New Film Reviews

It's the holidays now and don't you dare say that you've got nothing to watch with so many great films around! Or maybe you've already watched them all... I'm quite slow when it comes to movies because most often I am hit by serious cases of procrastination until it stopped screening in theatres, or somehow the trailers or reviews of the movie did not entice me enough. In any case, aren't we thankful for the existence of the Internet (read: Piratebay/Subtitles Search/Youtube) for an alternative...? :) This time, I'm suggesting two older films and one that is still screening in theatres. Same old rule - no plot spoilers involved in my review, so go ahead and read them!

I must be really predictable. The opening trick of Now You See Me immediately drew me in as part of the audience of the show, as one of the protagonists managed to guess exactly which card I saw. Is it illusion, hypnosis, psychology or was it real Science? I only became more and more intrigued by their ways of showmanship and the secrets behind their magic sequences. Now You See Me is brilliant in many ways, and perfect for a late night movie without any frightening gore that can induce nightmares, but a lot of thrilling suspense. Their second act of Now You See Me 2 is coming in 2016, and this time I'm going to watch it in the cinemas. Watch it? Yes.
One word to describe: Genius

I was drawn towards the unique cinematography and its setting in a city of blinking lights of Limitless, with slight elements of fantasy but that's what watching movies is about, isn't it? A temporary escape from reality and what could have been. It feels like falling into a rabbit hole, tumbling down further as the film moves further along, but you're never disconnected from what's going on. It keeps you excited and challenge you to think about your life's potentials. Watch it? Yes.
One word to describe: Inspiring

I was warned against watching The Hunger Games: Mockingjay in the theatres because of the lack of action like the previous films in the trilogy, and a lot of long-drawn conversations. Perhaps because of my major, I enjoyed it very much - but equally, I thought it must be dead boring for a lot of young teens and those who loved the usual explosions onscreen. Why did I love it? It's different, for one. I felt a lot of emotions stirred up even though I was not a citizen of Panem, I felt like I was with them on this one. Mockingjay opened up another section of emotions that I've never felt in a theatre. Usually I am only incited to feel basic feelings: wonderment (Interstellar), fear (Legion), regret/sadness (TFiOS) or happiness. With Mockingjay, you feel confusion, irony, and a real attachment to the characters... even side characters like Finnick. I shan't say more in case you haven't watched it - staying true to my no-spoilers movie reviews. Watch it? If you're looking for the gore in the first bloodbath film, you'll be sorely disappointed. If you've read the books, you'll know what to expect. If you're into the rebellion storyline, go watch it. But don't expect fights and action.
One word to describe: (Very, very) Different
